The Rejection Email

Well here is the official rejection email. I am so glad the wait is over! The official cutoff time was 2:09. I missed it by almost a minute (57 seconds to be exact) so I wasn't even close. I think I would have felt worse if I would have missed it by a few seconds. I am sure there are some people in that situation.

I had my doubts about this from the beginning but I had to give it a try since all of the predictions for the 2017 cutoff were looking at under a minute. The fire has definitely been lit but I am not sure what I am going to do at this point. The good news is that the qualifying standards for 2018 will remain the same and I know I have it in me to run a marathon in under 3:55. I have done it plenty of times. I just have to want it a little bit more.

Congratulations to everyone who was accepted into the 2017 Boston Marathon. I respect every one of you and wish you the best! You earned it!

  1. I'm sorry. I know exactly how it feels to get that email. You sound like you are handling it with more grace than I did (lots of tears - which is okay too). Now go get that next BQ!

    1. I wasn't planning to even apply because in the back of my mind my chances were slim. I took a chance on the predictions hoping I would get lucky but no such luck. I wasn't expecting the cutoff to be so large but it is what it is. I guess I need to gather my thoughts and try again.

    1. Thank you for the support Sun. I knew my chances were slim and I decided to try. Now I have a very good idea of what needs to be done to get in. I guess when it happens for me it will be that much sweeter.

    1. Thank you for your support and for always cheering me on. I knew my chances were slim to begin with but everyone convinced me to try. I had to. Canyon City was rough for me so I don't think I'll be back this year. I am going to run Mt. Charleston though. Will you be there?

  5. You know I know exactly how this feels, but you sound like much less of a baby than I was. I really really wanted you to get in--you have worked so hard. Just keep at it (I know you will) and it will happen. I just know it.
