I Finally Had a Decent Week!

I am excited to say that I finally had a decent week and I feel like my running is starting to get back on track. I knew things were getting better once I was able to run 18 total miles last week without the shin pain lingering. I wasn't sure how long it would last but I just kept my fingers crossed and prayed for the best!  Not having any committed races for the remainder of 2012 took a lot of stress off of my back and is allowing me to slowly ease my way back into things.

Here is how my week went:

Monday: 6.5 miles on the treadmill at 8:44 average pace (I haven't seen the 8:XX pace in a while so I was excited!) I kind of pushed the last half because the dreadmill  is very boring!

Tuesday: 86 push-ups and PT stretches

Wednesday: REST DAY

Thursday: 6 Miles and ran the first half with Caroline. It was great running with her and I am sure that I talked her head off!

Friday: 100 push-ups and PT stretches

Saturday: REST DAY

Sunday: 9 Miles

TOTAL MILES: 21.5

Pile on the Miles Update: I completed my first two weeks of Pile on the Miles with only 12 miles each week. Not so great but the good news is that I am running again and I am going to exceed my 50 mile goal for the challenge. At the time I signed up, the shin was still giving me grief and I wasn't about to sign up for a crazy amount of miles knowing that it was not going to happen.

Moving Forward: I really want to get back to cross training and add spinning back into my routine. I kind of backed off of spinning so that I could rest my legs for running and get myself back up to speed. If things continue to improve, the plan is to increase the long runs and start preparing for the Allstate 13.1 Los Angeles Half Marathon that is coming up on January 13, 2013. I am still hoping to pull of the Surf City Marathon on February 3, 2013 but if not, I will just run the half marathon and plan for another marathon at a later date.

Are you participating in Pile on the Miles? What is your goal?

  2. You know, I've been so focused on heart rate and time that I haven't been counting miles at all. When CIM is over, I will go back to my Garmin records and see how many miles I did run (I'll wait until then so it doesn't psych me out if it's low, which I suspect it is).

Congrats on a good solid (and comfortable for your shin) week! Very happy for you. (BTW, I enjoyed seeing your wedding pictures a post or two back...)

    1. You are some others are making me very curious about the heart rate training. I have never tried it before but have heard great things. As of now, I gauge my performance based on miles and maybe that is not such a good idea. I am mainly focusing on increasing my mileage and seeing how far I am able to go at this point before the shin acts up! Thank you for the good thoughts. I am trying to be positive, patient and responsible with this whole shin issue.

  3. Nice job with all the pushups and your training. I am not doing Pile on the Miles or really any other holiday challenges, lst year I signed up for two , but was not good about keeping updated on them so I decided not to do any this year, just do what I do :)

    1. Definitely if I make it to Surf City I would love to meet you! I don't want to downgrade to the half but even if I do I am okay with that. What other races are you considering out this way?

My POTM numbers are looking bare-ish! I didn't read the rules right and didn't realize the weeks ended on Saturdays and missed a run completely the first week! Only 11 miles for the second week and now I am sick...hoping to get back on track soon!

    1. Don't worry about it. You still have time to get more miles in and if not you need to focus on getting better. Mine are not so great but I am hoping to pick things up in the next couple of weeks!

    1. Thank You Marcia! I know that the speed will come with time. You were a big inspiration to me to help me get through this since we were kind of going through the same thing at the same time but you carried on! I feel so slow lately but my focus has been more on a comfortable run. The good thing is that there are no races to make me feel that pressure to run through the pain.

    1. Thank you Suzanne. It has definitely been a rough year! The shin pain is pretty much gone and it very minimal. It looks like the remainder of the year will be pretty easy for me since I have no races to train for.

    1. You were definitely part of my good week! It is always nice to see you! Yes I am doing the Venice Beach half. I will keep that in mind when I am dying at Miles 8-9. Maybe the smell will make me run faster to get away from it ha ha!!
