This year I set so many running goals and one of them was to run 13 races of various distances in 2013. It was definitely a gamble but I am happy to say that I reached my goal and my final number of races for the year is 17.
Marathons: 2
Half Marathons:8
10K's: 2
5K's:3
Relays: 2
It was not a year of multiple PR's since my focus was simply the marathon and I am so grateful to have improved my time by 16 minutes. I never take that marathon for granted because it is one of the hardest things I have ever done in my life!
What I did learn this year as a runner is that it is not always about me or getting a new PR. My most memorable races this year were actually ran with other runners and not alone. Supporting my friend Caroline during the OC Half Marathon was such a great experience. The lady inspires me to keep pushing when times get tough. Having the opportunity to run Ragnar Las Vegas with a great group of people was so much fun and such a wonderful opportunity. Most of all, watching my other half complete his first half marathon with a huge smile on his face after telling me how crazy I am for running the past three years. By the way, I am working on getting him to do a full marathon with me in 2014.

I am not sure if I will be attempting 14 in 2014 because it is going to be the year of the marathon for me. Yes, I will be chasing that BQ in 2014! Are you ready to take on 14 races in 2014? You can read all about it HERE.
I see a few marathons happening for me in 2014 as I continue to work towards my goal of qualifying for Boston. I might add in a few half marathons as well since I like to throw them into my training plan.

Who else participated in 13 in 2013? Please share!
Those are some great race finish times you have! Here's hoping you have a great year of races in 2014, too, and have many races with friends and family again, too!
ReplyDeleteThank You Tina for all of your support this year. I am glad I found your blog. I hope that 2014 is a great year for you and you get that BQ because you are an awesome runner :)
DeleteGreat job!!! I did the 13 in 2013 too! It seemed impossible at first but I went over this year!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Nancy! I know it is tough to manage a family and running especially with the little one. You have come a long way this year and have lots to be proud of.
DeleteThat's a busy year! I started with a goal of 13 in 2013 but illness and injury knocked me off of it early in the year, and by the end of the year I was starting to have to watch my spending. I think I ended up doing eight in '13.
ReplyDeleteEight is still great! Maybe you can try 14 in 2014 and get more races in next year! I am not sure if I am going to participate yet.
DeleteLet's see....I ran eight races in 2013 and like you my big PR was in the marathon. 2 marathons, 3 halfs, 1 10K, 1 4-miler, and 1 5K.
ReplyDelete2014 will be the year of the BQ for you! I can't wait to come along for the ride. Best of luck, Sandy!
Congratulations on a great year and most of all getting your BQ! I plan on running a few marathons this year in preparation for my goal race. I have to somehow get comfortable with the distance. I hope we will see each other in Boston, 2015 :)
DeleteYou've had such a great year! I would actually like to tackle some shorter races this spring/summer and maybe get a PR in the 5k/10k!
ReplyDeleteI have to be honest and say that I don't really like the shorter distances because they force you to push yourself pretty hard. I am sure you will PR in those shorter distances and any distance for that matter because you are just awesome like that!
DeleteYou are in the 2 highlight of my running year !!! OC and LV!!!!
ReplyDeleteI don't know how many races I ended up running this year... Less than 13 I think :(
