My Plans for the Remainder of 2014 and a Race for 2015!

As I mentioned in a previous post, I have been feeling a little less than motivated lately. I am still running but not really following any type of schedule or plan. I guess you can say that I just run with no particular pace or distance. That has kind of been my spot lately and it feels like of nice to take a little break from it. I feel like I have been in a consistent training cycle and maybe I need a break. Not a break from running but maybe just a break from the pressure of training for a race.

So what are my plans for the remainder of 2014? I have only committed to one race for the remainder of the year and I will be running it with my other half. It will be his second half marathon and he will be running it in one of his favorite places.

I have also thought about running a Turkey Trot (5K) on Thanksgiving Day but I have not committed to one yet. I can sign up at the last minute without worrying about a price increase so I will wait on this one. This is a fun one and I love that I get to see some of my local running buddies, like Megan, who also run this race.
Sometimes I feel like signing up for a race is the answer to getting yourself motivated so maybe these races will get me back into the groove. Having that said, I am going to commit to one more race that is more than six months out. I ran this race with a friend this year and paced her to a sub-2 half marathon PR. After experiencing the race, I really thought about running it to see what I could pull off on my own. I call it a cheat race because it is downhill but sometimes it is nice to fly without needing a pair of wings. It is local and cheap so what the heck. I am going to give it a try!
My running club also runs some local races that they incorporate into their training so they might twist my arm to sign up. I say no, but we will see.

Who else is thinking about signing up for some year end races?

What about races for 2015?

  1. I've got Rock and Roll LA, and Avengers remaining for this year. I'm thinking of doing the Holiday Half. I may register at the R&R LA expo. 2015 is set for R&R AZ, Surf City and Tinkerbell so far. I'm thinking of a full. I don't know if I want to do LA or San Diego. I hear you on being burnt out. I can't even drag myself to the gym for weights lately. I've been using work as an excuse, but truthfully, I could give up some TV or internet time to it. I'm just not feeling it. Did you ever get your shoe situation straightened out?

    1. You have a lot of races coming up! I really wanted to R&R Los Angeles but decided not to. I am not sure if I figured out my shoe issues yet. I ran my first marathon in my new shoes and it was not pretty. I had some pretty ugly blisters and my feet did not feel so great. They were fine during the training so I am not sure what went wrong.

  2. I wish I was dong RNR Vegas! The only race on my radar right now is a 5k that happily lands on my birthday which is also Thanksgiving this year so that makes it really hard to turn down. 2015.. looking at some half marathons and maybe a relay but nothing set in stone yet.

    1. Birthday races are the best. I just missed my birthday marathon which probably won't happen for a while :( You do so well with those half marathons!

  3. I"m with you on looking forward to a break in races. I love them and find them motivating as well, but this latest goal of mine has pushed my limits w/ regards to balance (i.e. work/run/personal/do-nothing/etc). I did sign up for another ultra in May, but figure that's far enough out to make me hungry for it again :)

  4. I left a comment yesterday from my iPad and it just plain disappeared into cyberworld. :/

Ben really wants to get to Vegas again this year. I'm not sure it'll happen for us but I'm excited for your husband. He's going to love it! I love the energy of the first half of the race.

I've never run a downhill race but I have friends (and my siblings) who have used down hill courses to set incredible PRs. I'm tempted to try one, but I'm not sure what I think.

    1. I cannot comment on Blogger from my iPhone either or the comments disappear. Strange! Vegas is a fun race and I swear that is you on the video that they have posted on their website! Downhill races are fun if they are not too steep otherwise they are super quad killers!
