It's been a week since I last blogged! I guess that can be explained by my less than stellar week which included the following not so exciting events.
1) I had to report to Jury Duty but I was not selected to sit on a jury. I was relieved to say the least.2) I attended a funeral for a family member. My step-father's sister passed away and it was a very emotional funeral to say the least.
3) I cut my long run short. It rained for most of the weekend so I thought I would attempt 10 miles on the treadmill. FAIL! My run was horrible from the start and I felt like I was dying at a 9:30 pace. I then proceeded to torture myself by running a 7:30 mile to end the run. I felt better in the end but only ran 6.5 miles because 10 miles on the mill was just not happening! Anything past 8 miles is hard for me unless my treadmill buddy runs with me to talk and pass the time.
I have another half marathon on Super Bowl Sunday. It will be my second half marathon of the year. The race starts at 7:45 am and since I wussed out and transferred to the half marathon, my bib number is assigned to the very last wave with the 3:00+ group. Is it wrong for me to sneak into a wave that starts according to my half marathon pace? I have been told that the course has no shade and even though the weather is cool it is pretty sunny. The marathon starts at 6:30 am which is a much better but that is what I get for not running the marathon, right? On a positive note, I am pretty excited about running my first race in the Beach Cities Challenge series and the surf board medal is pretty cute too! I have no goals for this race. I have been pretty bad about setting goals lately. I just want to run pressure free. This year I really want to focus on improving my marathon time and that is kind of where my mind is at.
I am hoping that this week is better than last week and that the weather is decent on Sunday. The forecast is predicting a high of 66 and a low of 54. I will take it.
Anybody else racing this weekend?
Any big plans for Super Bowl Sunday?
I am not a big football fan but I will be watching it with my Grandma. She loves football! I do love the commercials though.
Are you focusing on a particular distance this year?
My mind is focused on the marathon but I haven't registered for one yet.
I think I NEED to come do the surfboard bling race one of these years--love it! I think you should move up corrals. As long as your pace warrants it you're all good! My focus is 5k and I haven't signed up for a single one! Ha!
ReplyDeleteYes you definitely need a surfboard medal! Put it on the bucket list! I think I am going to try to sneak a little closer. I might even ask at the expo to make sure I don't get kicked out :(
DeleteI bet you can get out of that corral. That happened to me in Detroit--was originally signed up for the full, moved to the half and got put in the slowest corral. But they moved me into a better corral really easily and were nice about it--I'd say just ask!
ReplyDeleteGood luck this weekend!
I definitely want to see about moving up. I have not had too much luck getting through crowds when I have started too far back. We will see what happens. I think it is worth a try to ask.
DeleteI'm RACING THIS WEEKEND! EEEEEEEEEK.
ReplyDeleteMy dear friend is running the half (it's her 2nd ever) and she's in the last corral, if you want to make friends! :) My marathon wave starts at 6:34 if you feel like being out there that early just to ... you know... be out there that early. :)
I am so excited for you!! You are going to have so much fun! I am hoping to move a little closer to the front or else I will never it through the crowds. Good Luck!
DeleteI had jury duty last week too and didn't get picked..yay. Sorry you had a funeral...hugs.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your half marathon. I don't have any races until March. Seems so far away at this point!
March will be here before you know. At least you still have time to train and you don't have to feel any pressure until then! I started my year off early but it keeps me motivated to keep training.
DeleteI would go to the solution table on Saturday and have them mark your bib
ReplyDeleteit takes no time I did it last year
if not I would move up for sure
I am in wave 5 I think and that is already late at 8 am...!
I guess I will do that. I did not know that I was able to change. See you on Sunday! Have a great race!!!
Deletebest spot on the course for family is near the BUFFS around mile 4-5
ReplyDeleteThank You Caroline. I will let the boys know.
DeleteI almost did the same by moving to the half but decided not to fly across the country if I couldn't do the full right now :( I'm sad but look forward to reading your recap!!
ReplyDeleteI felt bad moving to the half but I think it was the right thing for me to do. I have been busy and missed some of my key long runs so I would have went into the full less than 100% and I didn't want to do that or injury myself. There will always be another opportunity or another race to run, right? Good Luck to you!
