Call Me Crazy!

I have always wanted to run some type of race on my birthday but it never seems to work out that way. My birthday is in September and I usually run the Disneyland Half Marathon every year. It has never fallen on my birthday and this year the race will be held on August 31st. The tradition of running the Disneyland Half Marathon since 2010 will most likely be broken this year because I found a local race that will be held on my birthday!
The Ventura Marathon will be held on September 7th, 2014. The race director thinks I am kind of crazy but so do a lot of other people! Registration opens on October 28th so I think I am going to ahead and sign up for the full marathon. The full is $70.00 and the half is $50.00. I might decide to drop down to the half marathon depending on how my year goes. I think it safer to sign up for the full since lots of runners registered for this race at the last minute this year as a final attempt at a BQ for Boston, 2014.
I am also thinking that this race might be my last and final attempt at a BQ for Boston, 2015. I am hoping that I meet my goal of running a BQ in May, 2014 but you never know how a race is going to pan out no matter how hard you train. Wouldn't it be the best birthday ever if I actually gave myself a BQ for my birthday?

Have you ever ran a race on your birthday?

  1. I've never done a race on my birthday. Around the Bay is always the week of my birthday though, so I celebrate all the same!

I have always wanted to run a race on my birthday, Feb 18 but the only race that happens then near me is in Myrtle Beach and it usually snows in February so I am always afraid that it will get cancelled or rescheduled and then I will have wasted a trip out of town. Maybe one day!

  3. A BQ would be a pretty fantastic birthday present. I ran the LA Marathon for my 40th last year. It was the day before, so not exactly ON my birthday, but I figured close enough. The problem is that I was too exhausted from the race the day before to celebrate on my birthday. Hopefully you'll have better post-marathon power!

  4. That would be the PERFECT birthday present!!! My birthday is in January so there aren't a lot of races. However, the Bermuda marathon is around my birthday every year...hoping to celebrate with it one day!

  5. This is awesome! And I can't think of a better way to celebrate a birthday than with a runner's high! I'm adding this guy to my "maybe" list, because I'm also (quietly) hoping to BQ next year, so if it doesn't come together for me earlier in the year, then this might be my last shot. Either way, it'd be fun to reunite & get to wish you a happy birthday. And you absolutely MUST wear some kind of birthday outfit, so everyone can cheer extra loud for you :)

    1. Let me know if you decide to run so we can see each other :) I am so on the fence about running the race as a fun race to enjoy my birthday or keep aiming for that BQ goal! A birthday outfit is a great idea! I am going to have to think about that one!

  6. I ran the half and did not like the course very much. But it was listed as one of the top 20 BQ races this year and it is very affordable :) Good luck!

    1. I know it is a fairly new race but I really love running in Ventura. I have heard that the course is fast and flat but have not heard much details about the course. Thank you for stopping by!
