Weekly Update (10/14/13 to 10/20/13)

This week involved a lot of rest and recovery. I usually like to take at least 5-7 days off after a marathon to allow my body top completely recover and to avoid injury. I promised myself to hold off until I was pain free before I started getting back into my running. After my marathon last Sunday, I was sore for about four days and I was sore every where! I guess I can contribute the pain to the pace that I ran those first 20 miles! I was pain free on Friday but waited until Saturday to go for a run.

Monday: REST

Tuesday: 6.11 Miles on the recumbent bike to loosen up my legs. I was kind of jealous of all of the runners on the treadmills but I knew I had to take it easy.
Wednesday: REST

Thursday: REST

Friday: My friend treated me to a massage and it was pretty amazing! I can get used to that. I think all future marathons will include massages to reward myself!
Saturday: I went for a 10 mile group run @9:58 pace with the girls and my other half. Even though the pace was easy it was a little tough. I somehow dropped my GU without realizing it so I was a little low on energy.
I put my legs in my friends pool after our run and it felt amazing!
Sunday: REST

I am hoping to get back into my usual routine this coming week. I plan on scaling back my mileage for the next couple of weeks until the week of my upcoming half marathon which will also be my first week of training for the LA Marathon! I am pretty excited to start training for another marathon!

How was your week in running? Did you race or go for a long run?

  1. Good call on the recovery plan. This is all new to me and I went out for 3 miles on Wednesday and 4 on Thursday. I attempted to do 8 today but I crashed around mike 3 and walked home. Even a 10 minute mile pace is painful. I want my legs back!!

    1. Recovery is one of the most important things for me. I used to try to pugh it just to get some miles in but it is not worth it. I spent a good part of 2012 on the bench due to injury and I am much smarter now. I am going to try to get back into this week but will be taking it easy for sure!

    1. Christy you are too sweet! I am no marathon queen by any means! I just want to get a little more comfortable with the distance but it never gets easier and it keep me humble! Roxy is doing good. I am going to post an update on her soon. How is that leg?

  3. The recumbent bike is my recovery/injury friend too--I always feel, when I climb on it, that it's my secret weapon. This helps me not be jealous of the runners around me. :^) Glad you are taking it easy for a bit before ramping up again for the Big One.

    1. The BIG ONE will be here in May, 2014! It makes me nervous just too think about it. The marathon is such a beast and I never feel 100% confident because you just never know what it will give you on any given day! It truly is a humbling experience for me! I hope you are still celebrating your BQ! It must be nice to have that pressure off of your shoulders! I am so proud of you!

    1. I am looking forward to giving myself a little break! I think it something that we all need to do. I definitely want to step it up a little bit during my training for the LA Marathon.
