So this happened.....
After being injured once you learn not to mess around and let things go. The pain that I am having is a very small area (about an inch) on the side of my shin and my doctor thinks that it is inflammation of the surrounding tissue and not the bone itself. I wanted to be on the safe side so he agreed than an x-ray would rule out a stress fracture and then we would go from there. I won't have the results for 24-48 hours so now it is time to patiently wait it out and hope for the best. In the meantime I am just doing other forms of cardio but no running.
I have a 10K on the books for Saturday so hopefully I will know something by then and that will decide whether or not doing the 10K is safe. I would much rather save myself for the Long Beach Half Marathon which is less than three weeks away so if I have to sit the 10K out. I don't want to but I know it might be the smartest thing for me to do.
I thought this was pretty funny and I wanted to share it with all of you. I was telling my son that I was going to have an x-ray to see if anything was wrong with my shin and he asked what was wrong? I told him that I wanted to make sure that I didn't have a stress fracture and he replied, "Mommy, did I cause you to have the stress fracture from stressing you out sometimes?" Kids say the funniest things, don't they?
I have another COOL Giveaway coming up that you are really going to like! I will give you a hint...it's another one of my favorite running items!!

What are some of your favorite or must have running items?
Aww... you are melting my heart with your son's story! I love kids' thought process. :). I am like you when it comes to a aches and pains and getting them checked out which is how I discovered that I have minor arthritis in one knee. Now I'm having tendonitis but I think it's something else so getting it checked out! Favorite running must have...hmmm I am not into running with lots of stuff but when I do run with my headphones I need one that stays put while I'm inning and doesn't co
ReplyDeleteE out of my ears every few steps. Also a water bottl. Always bring it with me.
I agree Angie. Get that checked out and I hope it turns out well. I learned the hard way and kept going and that did me no good! I am smarter now and more patient because being injured was pretty depressing. I rarely run with music but I never leave home without my water!
ReplyDeleteAwh, I am glad you went to get it checked...
ReplyDeleteMy favorite running items include Nuun, beans, and shot blocks.
I also always have my music, and my water bottle "nathan" for my long runs. Yes, I named my water bottle after his brand name. HAHA!
I am hoping for the best!! I have never tried beans but love Nuun and shot blocks! I never leave home without my water...I would die of thirst!!
Deleteoh I hope you will get good news....
ReplyDeletefavorite running items...NUUN of course...and honey waffle stinger
Thank you Caroline. I think I am okay but just want to make sure so that I don't do any more damage!! I have never tried Waffle Stingers before but the word "Waffle" makes them sound good!
DeleteHow cute is he? I am keeping my fingers crossed for you!!!
ReplyDeleteI thought it was pretty cute too! Thank you for the well wishes. I don't need another injury!!
DeleteWell, I love my Garmin--it's my HR monitor and timer and distance-measurer all rolled into one.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it funny how one injury has made us so much more careful? I wish I'd been careful that way from the beginning! Hope the x-ray turns out well.
I have never tried training by heart rate but it seems to work well for many people. I think I might be overly cautious but I think it's better than trying to push yourself through it! I should have my results this morning so I am hoping for the best!
