Four Weeks and Counting!

I can't believe that my third marathon is just four weeks away. I am so nervous yet excited! It has been over a year since I ran my last marathon so it's like I am running my first one all over again. I think I have forgotten what it feels like which is why I am nervous. I really want to run a sub-four marathon but at this point I am not so sure that I have put in the training to make it a reality. I am running this marathon in honor of my Dad who is still battling cancer so I guess it doesn't really matter what time I finish. I just need to finish and get through those last 6.2 miles where I always seem to throw my race away!
I have only ran one 20 miler and I would like to run at least one more before the big day. As I have said before, I am not in love with the marathon but I so badly want to qualify for Boston. If it wasn't for Boston, I think I would stick to half marathons.

I also have a half marathon coming up next Sunday which will be my first race of 2013. It is a flat and fast course and in spite of this good news I don't have any goal for this race except maybe a sub-two finish. As a matter of fact, I think I am going to play it safe and use it as part of my marathon training to get an idea of where my endurance is at.
Anybody else running these sames races? When is or was your first race of 2013?

  1. Oooh very exciting!! I can see why the marathon isn't everyone's favorite. It's pretty all encompassing and well, it's far :)

I'm rooting for you for a strong finish and a BQ!!

    1. Thank You Lisa. I have a love/hate relationship with the distance! I do badly want to achieve my goal of a BQ but just have to figure out the last 6.2 miles. I have to push myself harder mentally this time and hope for good things to happen.

You can do it!!!! Don't be nervous -- be excited!! In any moment(s) of weakness think POSITIVE and remember how strong your Dad is and how much of an inspiration he is!! You will make AMAZING memories regardless of time:)

I haven't run any official races in 2013 yet, but I'm hoping to pick at least two!!

    1. You are right in everything you said. I know that I will be thinking of my Dad on that day and fueling off of those thoughts. I can't be too worried about time or else I get too stressed out. I will just let it happen!

  3. HOORAY FOR SURF CITY! What's your goal time for the race? I would love to get to meet you!

My two 20-mile runs have not gone over so well and I'm a little nervous. I feel strong and good overall, but I wish I could have gotten one in. Damn cold has had me on the couch all week, so tapering is starting early. Eep!

    1. I would love to meet you too! We will have to figure something out. My goal has always been to break four hours and it hasn't happened yet :( I always say that it depends on how things go on race day but if I have a 3:59:59 in me, I would love for it to happen.

  6. No real races for me yet in 2013--but I'm excited that your marathon is so close. It sounds like you're taking the right attitude with it. Remember all those miles are great for your base, think of your dad--and you might surprise yourself.

  7. GOOD LUCK!!! I love running along Huntington Beach - I have a cousin who lives half a mile from the pier - I just roll out of bed and hit the coast whenever I come to visit. Heaven!!!
First official race will be Canyonlands in March - pushing for hard training and getting a PR!!!

    1. Well lucky you! It is a great place to run so I am excited about running a course that has some miles by the water. Good luck at Canyonlands in March. The name alone sounds like it is a hard course.

    1. I am not sure if I am fully committed to running the full marathon yet! If I can convince myself to do it then I will start looking for a hotel room if there are any left! I will probably pick up my packet on Saturday. Are you going on Saturday? I will be thinking of you when I smelling that horrible smell! Not in a bad way but because you have been warning me about it :)
