Weekly Recap and What's Next for Me?

Last week was NOT a very busy one in terms of running. I ran 7.25 miles on the mill on Tuesday night and then did nothing else for the rest of the week. I had a 20 mile week and a 113 mile month which isn't too bad for me.

Due to the pain I have been having in my right shin, I decided it would be best to rest for the remainder of the week since I had plans to run the Disneyland Half Marathon on Sunday. The good news is that it was a wise decision because I had some pretty fresh legs on Sunday which resulted in a mini PR. The bad news is that the darn pain in my shin is back and it hurts more than it did before the race! I think it is best to let the pain settle down before I attempt to run again.
So what's next for me? Well, I am registered for the Long Beach Marathon on October 7th. I am not feeling 100% ready for it and this shin issue is starting to worry me. I was thinking about downgrading to the half marathon but then I found out that the deadline to downgrade was August 31st!  I was also thinking that I should focus on my half marathon time and works towards my goal of coming closer to a 1:45. That would be ideal for me right now but apparently I registered for Long Beach back in January when I was injured. The crazy thoughts of an injured runner wanting to run so badly!! What was I thinking??

The longest distance I have completed to date is 18 miles which means that I need to to squeeze a 20 and a 22 miler in like yesterday if a marathon is going to happen in the near future! I am working towards my Beach Cities Challenge medal so either way I am running Long Beach but I just don't know the distance yet. Any suggestions on what I should do?

Did anybody race over the Labor Day weekend?
How was your holiday?
My Labor Day holiday was very relaxing. We stayed home and BBQ'd and just took it easy.

  1. Bummer on the pain coming back but way to go on the pr!!! It's a tough call...I'm sure you would be able to finish the marathon with just an 18 miler under your belt but then again you don't want to seriously injure yourself. Good luck!!

    1. I agree with you. I am 90% half marathon right now and 10% marathon. I think I could pull the marathon off with a crappy finish and I don't really want to put myself through 26.2 miles for no good reason!

  3. My fingers are crossed that they will let you change--you need to baby that shin, not put it through a marathon.

    1. I totally agree. The marathon is not a good idea quite yet. I really want to focus on Surf City in February and I will be able to train in much cooler conditions. It has been a brutal summer here and I can't wait for it to go away!

  4. I agree with the others. That shin is a concern for sure. Probably best not to push it. I will be sending positive thoughts your way in hopes that you get a good response in regards to dropping to the 1/2. That way you could focus on your goal and let that shin relax a little.:)

    1. Thank You for the positive thoughts! I usually go with my gut feeling and it is telling me not to do the marathon! My shin definitely needs a break! I am not sure why it has started to act up!
