Due to the hot weather in California, I have been spending more time than I would like to running on the treadmill at the gym. I spend of a lot of my time people watching when I am on the mill and have been seeing some interesting things lately. Before I ask you the question, let me just tell you that when I go for a run or run a race, you won't see me looking very "pretty." For the most part, I do not wear make-up and I don't blow dry or curl my hair very often unless I am going out for a special occasion or I have the time. I have really long hair and it takes forever a day to do it and there is just no way in the world I can run with it down! My time is very limited since I work full time so most of the time my hair is up and I don't have time to put on make-up!
So here is my question. .....Do you wear make-up and do your hair when you are working out or racing? I am just curious. I know that a lot of people like to dress up for races and have fun and I am not referring to that.
I don't have a problem with it but I couldn't even imagine having mascara running down my face during a hard run because I sweat like crazy. I know that some women, like my younger sister, have a thing with always wanting to look good. My younger sister fixes herself to go to bed and swears that she will never let her boyfriend see her looking "ugly." I tell her that she is crazy!
The women that I see at the gym are constantly wiping the sweat off of their faces and they seem to be more worried about how they look versus getting down to business. Some of these women look pretty damn good so I am not sure how they do it! There are two women, whom I think are sisters, who are always at the gym when I am there. Their hair and make-up is always perfect and they love to look at themselves in the mirror, dance in front of the mirror and flirt with every man that will give them the time of day! I guess I should thank them for the entertainment because sometimes they make my runs go by must faster!
Do you people watch while you are working out at the gym? Do you ever notice anything interesting about people at the gym like I do? What's your opinion on looking "pretty" while you work out?
Hi! Thanks so much for your sweet comment! To answer your question- yes, usually when I race I wear make up and try to make my hair look nice...I started doing it after seeing some pretty terrible race pictures...
ReplyDeleteSo good to catch up with you!!!!
I didn't think the race photos! I think I wouldn't look good either way since the photographers always seem to catch me at the worst moment. I can't wait to see your wedding photos!
DeleteI do wear a touch of makeup, just because I don't want to scare anyone...LOL...But as far as my hair I just pull it back in a pony tail and put my visor on!!
ReplyDeleteI do the same with my hair but no make up for me. Since I don't wear it often I would forget and end up rubbing my eyes or something and making a big mess! The race photographers would have great time taking pics of me with mascara smeared all over my face!
DeleteNo make up and no doing the hair!!
ReplyDeleteI wear a hat even at gym!!!
I look at people at our gym
the morning crowd is full of those women....the hair, the make up, the clothes that are too small, showing the investments they put in their bodies....hmmm you know :)
Oh Caroline you make me laugh! I have to agree with you though! I just want to be comfortable and that means hair back and braided and no make up on the face. I just put sunscreen and call it day!
ReplyDeleteI usually only wear makeup away from the gym......
ReplyDeleteAll kidding aside, I love to people watch at the gym. My favorites are the dudes who grunt and slam the weights around....and spend MINUTES between sets! Or the dudes who only work on upper body parts and have skinny little legs. I also like the girls who cover the screen on the treadmill with a towel.
What about people who read while on aerobic machines (like treadmills/ellipticals)? Normally, they're moving at about half speed....any thoughts?
Bill I wonder about these same kinds of things! I am not sure why girls cover the screen with the towel. I think that they get anxious looking at how much further they have to go and don't want to watch the time tick away? The guys with the skinny legs..I wonder about that one too! I can't stand that look and wonder if they notice that or don't care??? I personally cannot read on the treadmill or the elliptical or I would probably throw up! Some of the treadmills at my gym have tv's on them and I feel sick looking at the screen so I have to turn it off.
DeleteHere's another one for you Bill! I trip out on the people who go to the gym and circle the parking lot trying to score the parking space closest to the door and I am not referring to those who are handicapped! I understand why disabled people need to park close to the door but the others?? I am glad that I am not the only people watcher and the only one who wears make up from the gym!
I don't wear make-up at all unless there's a wedding or something of equal magnitude going on. I certainly don't wear it at the gym or in races. I do like to take a shower before a race and I do shave my legs every day, but that's because I just feel better doing those things (wish I could break the leg shaving habit, but I hate the prickles). There is one woman at my gym who wears a lot of make-up--she must wipe her face constantly. I wonder why she bothers. It's 5:30 a.m.! We are exercising!
ReplyDeleteI am with you on this one! I think you have me beat on the leg shaving though. There have been times in the winter wear I have let that duty slide for a few days longer than I should have! The good thing about not wearing make-up is that you don't know what I look like with it so you I can't scare you off! I like to be comfy when I exercise/race and don't want to be worried about how I look. There are some runners who can run crazy fast and look pretty while doing it! I am not one of them! I sweat like crazy and turn bright red when I am running hard!
DeleteI rarely wear makeup at all so I definitely don't wear it when I'm working out or racing. I don't even wear my wedding rings!
ReplyDeleteI don't wear my ring either. I had an ugly fall last December and my knuckle got bigger after I hurt my finger and I cannot get it over my knuckle anymore! You will rarely see me with make-up unless there is a special occasion.
DeleteI will usually cover up the bags on my eyes (hah), but nothing more than that. I will twist the short pieces of my hair to the side and pull the rest up in a pony tail or bun. By the time the race is over, the make up isn't even on or it is wiped down the face.
ReplyDeleteI think what you are doing is pretty normal but I have seen some women at the gym who go all out. I would be a mess even if I did light make-up because I would forget that I had it on!
DeleteI never put on makeup to go to the gym, and if you do see me sporting any it's because I didn't take it off and am sweating through work makeup. I do sometimes throw on some eyeliner or mascara for races, but that's it and it's usually more because I'm trying to pump myself up for the race and looking cute helps to do that.
ReplyDeleteI think you are so pretty without make up but if that is what gets you pumped up you then that's great! Someone else pointed out looking decent in race photos but I don't think I could look decent in a race photo anyway!
