Getting Lost and a Weekly Recap

I have to be careful running in new places.  While I was visiting my sister in South Carolina I managed to get lost on my supposed to be 6 mile run! I had mapped out a route to try but some of the street were not marked so I am not sure where I was going so I just kept moving.
I was waiting for the sun to set before I left so I didn't leave her house until 7:30pm. It started to get dark about 30 minutes after I left and then it was really hard to see out there.  Not only are some of the streets not marked but the lighting is also very poor. The area looked familiar but I took another wrong turn and I was lost! I had to call my sister and explain where I was and she loaded up the kids and came to rescue me.  After I went to bed that night she posted this on Facebook. I (red star) was actually really close to her house (the orange triangle) but it was so dark that I didn't realize it. The good thing is that I ended up running 7 miles instead of 6!
My next run took place during the day because it was not fun getting lost in a strange dark place! My sister and my niece came along on my 5 mile run with me and rode their bikes but then my niece ended up with a flat tire and her chain also fell of of her bike.  FAIL!  They had to call for help and headed back home. I kept on going by myself and it was around 90 degrees so that was probably a good idea that they went home. I really struggled on this run because of the heat but I made it through and I was glad that I was able to get some miles in while I was away.
I also went for a 12 mile run with my Ragnar team at 5am on Sunday morning.  I was still on South Carolina time so I was able to get up without a problem. It was definitely an easy paced run but it was nice to get together and get to know these people since I only know a few of them. We realized that we are all connected in different ways and that we know some of the same people.  I guess it is a small world.

I had 40 miles planned for the week but it ended in only 30. I wanted to run further than 12 miles on Sunday but there was a last minute plan go to Starbucks after the group run and that sounded much better at the time since it was 75 degrees when we started and into the mid 80's when we finished. This week should be better since there will be no traveling and my routine is starting to get back to normal.

 Have you ever gotten lost on a run?  
This was the first time for me. I always dream that I get lost while running races though!

  1. I've never gotten lost before but I'm sure it will happen to me sooner or later. I tore off running through four neighborhoods last night and ending up cutting through a field to get home.

    1. I was doing some of that too when I was lost hoping that I would somehow end up back at my sister's house!

  2. 5 am that is early...are these people all living near by or you had to drive
    I went out at 6:45 yesterday and it was too late..already very hot

    I have never gotten lost before...

    1. We all met in Upland at one of the team members house. It took me about 15 minutes to get there.Even at 5am is was already 76 degrees and the sun was out within an hour.

  3. It's hard to run with the heat, for this reason I prefer the winter time.
    I have never got lost during a workout or a race .... but sometimes I got lost after the race to find where I parked the car.

    1. I always forget where I park on a daily basis! Good thing I have a different looking car with personal plates or I would never find the car. I hope you are feeling better from your injury. I know how it feels to be injured and it messing with your mind. Take Care.

  4. Glad I am not the only one who skipped out of some extra running this weekend in lieu of fun! Sounds like you had a good time down south though!

    1. The trip was great! I try to stick to my schedule as much as I can but sometimes it just doesn't happen. I am trying to make this week a better week. I hope yours is a great one too!

  5. I have not gotten lost yet, knock on wood. That had to have been scary. I know I would have initially freaked out a little. I am glad your sister came to the rescue. The heat is tough to run in. I have really enjoyed getting up at 4 to 5 am here in NC and getting out early when it is still cool. The heat is draining. I am a cool weather Canadian girl at heart.

    1. I am usually really good about mapping out my routes but some of the streets were not marked so I think that is how I got lost. The fact that is was dark did not help either but I still enjoyed my run. I am not sure if I could get up and run at 4am. I think the earliest for me is 5am.

  6. I'm sure I have gotten lost on runs, but nothing quite that traumatic (yet).

    Running with your relay team sounds fun!

    1. I felt like an idiot getting lost but I laugh about it now! Running with my relay team was great. They are all really nice and down to earth people.

  7. I always worry I am going to get lost too! Nice job on the training. 30 miles is still impressive! Running a relay sounds like fun...you have a built in support system!
