Three Things Thursday

 1. I finally heard back on my home appraisal and it was not as great as I wanted it to be.  I am still going to move forward with it even though I am going to have to come up with some extra cash at closing to make up for the small difference between the new loan amount and the current loan amount. I can't have two mortgages so I have to pay the difference to get my current one down to zero. It is not a bad thing since it's actually paying my mortgage down and I will owe a little bit less. I will be glad when I see that lower mortgage payment!
2. I almost gave in and went for a trial run on the treadmill last night before my spin class. I even brought my running shoes with me which I usually leave at home so I don't get crazy and actually run. I was thinking about it all day and but resisted the urge. I wasn't really in the mood to be in the saddle last night but I forced myself to go anyway. I think I kept my eye on the clock the whole time and couldn't wait for the class to be over.  Not good..I know.

3. Today I have my annual performance evaluation at work. I think it is going to go well but I get nervous anyway. Sitting one on one with my boss for an hour and listening to what he really thinks of my performance makes me a little nervous. The good news is that I will get a raise if all goes well! I have to admit that I have a great job and I feel really lucky to be in the position that I am in. Sometimes I feel like I don't really deserve the job that I have so I am thankful for it everyday. So once I get the house refinanced and my new raise kicks in, I will have more money to spend on races, Lululemon running skirts and a vacation.  Just Kidding! I am a little smarter than that. I am actually looking forward to stashing more money away for a rainy day or paying a little extra on my mortgage every month. You never know what life is going to deal you at any given time!

Are you a saver or a spender?
I have my moments but I think I am "financially smart" for the most part.  I definitely know my limits. I use my credit cards for everything because I like to see my reward points build up and then I use them to get extras like my Starbucks cards. My rule is that I have to pay my credit cards off monthly and if I cannot then I am over spending and cannot afford it!

    1. I like the spin instructor but I think I would rather be running so I am not 100% convinced with spinning and no running. I am actually doing okay without running..I mean better than I thought I would but it won't last long I am sure.

  2. Good luck with your performance review. I hate evaluating myself. Of course I am going to give myself a good review!

I wish I were more of a saver but I kind of have more fun spending, not that I go overboard or anything, I just am not good at saving money :)

  3. That's a good combo, lower mortgage, higher salary. Funny how the years go by and the cost of living cancels out the raises. Or maybe that's just me.

    1. I have to agree with you on this one! It seems like the more money you make, the more money you spend. Gas prices are outrageous here in CA right now so lots of my money will be spend on gas!

    1. Thank you for the kind words! I am guilty of indulging in the running fashions as well. I just can't help myself and that is pretty much where my fun money goes!

  5. We had the same thing with refinancing the house recently...our payments are lower now and it is great

I am sure you will get a great review, people who love their job usually alwyas perform well.

I am a huge saver. I hate to shop and spending makes me nervous always. My husband is the complete opposite.

    1. I can't say that I hate to shop because I actually love it! I have just gotten better at not over doing it. I love finding great deals and I never pass one up. I do avoid Lululemon stores because I tend to lose control in that store!

  7. Interesting post. I am glad you like your job because we spend more time in office than at home. Because of a highest salary I left a very very very good job in the Coast Guard: I miss a lot that Corp and all my friends there.
Good luck with the mortgages and the meeting with your boss.
    I am not a saver.

    1. Thank you and you are right about the amount of time we spend at work versus at home. I am gone for about 12 hours a day! It takes a lot of discipline to be a saver and with Christmas approaching, it is going to get harder and harder!

I used to be a big spender but this entire year has been dedicated to paying off debt and trying to save a little more and really no spending on extra at all. So I limited myself to spending on on certain things, believe my shopping suffered alot but it was so worth it!

    1. Paying off debt is a good thing and you will feel so happy after it is all done. I went through that once and just put everything I could into getting down to zero debt. Transferring balances at lower interest rates is also helpful. Definitely worth it in the end.

  9. I do the same thing. We put everything on the credit card and pay it each month and thanks to doing that we've gotten 3 free round trip airline tickets. Hope your performance evaluation went great and you got a raise!

    1. Wow..airline tickets is huge! I don't think I let my points sit that long with cashing them in. My boss rescheduled my performance evaluation to Tuesday so it hasn't happened yet. Thank you for the well wishes and take care.
