Breaking My Own Rules

I know I have been going on and on about refinancing my home and the need to save money for the past month or so. I am pretty good about not over spending and with Christmas right around the corner I think I have been really good up until Friday of last week....

I went into good old Target and broke my own rules.  I have yet to learn how to go into this place and just buy what is on my list and nothing else! It rarely happens. In my own defense, the extra things that I usually throw in my cart are things that I need but may have forgotten to add to my list.  My son always tries to convince me to buy him something when we go but he has not been too successful lately since it is almost Christmas.

I had been eyeballing the Target ad all week and debating about whether or not I should buy a certain item. The item was not on sale but since I have a Target credit card, I get 5% off all of my purchases so it saves me a heck of lot of money even though it is only a small percentage. I had a very impulsive moment and I bought an iPad with Retina display.
It has the same connector as the iPhone 5 and I have also been considering upgrading my phone since I am eligible to upgrade at a discounted price.  I got 5% off of the $499 and I also got a $40 Target gift card on top of that so I thought it was a pretty good deal.  Apple rarely offers any type of discount on their products except on Black Friday but why wait in a long line when you can get the same discount now? I did not buy the iPad with Wi Fi  because my phone plan allows me to use my iPhone as a hotspot so it's not really necessary.

I did have buyers remorse the next day and I still haven't opened it.  I am pretty sure that I am going to keep it but I just have to let it sink in first.

So tell me, are you able to go into Target and purchase only those items on your list?
 I rarely do :(

Do you get buyer's remorse when you purchase a high ticketed item?
I usually do, with the exception of my car and my house.

  1. We have to stay away from Target and Walmart or we end up with lots of extra items in the buggy. That's why I started shopping for groceries at Publix. I go every Wednesday and stick to my list and even though I'm going every week it's saving us a lot of money!

    1. You are pretty disciplined! I try to make my visits weekly and have been pretty good about that. No that Target sells groceries I tend to try to so all of my shopping in one place if I can. Groceries are much cheaper at Target than the grocery stores in my area.

  2. I think Target was made for the express purpose of getting people to "impulse buy." I think I have rarely made it out of there with less than $150 of junk! :-)

    1. I agree with you. I have yet to meet someone who is able to run into Target for just one item!

    1. I guess we all have a weakness for good old Target. I buy too many things at Target to completely avoid it!

  4. I did the same thing in January in Houston when Kathy and I went into Best Buy. I bought an iPod Touch totally on impulse. I will say this....I have not regretted the purchase. :^)

    1. Now I don't feel so bad :) I sometimes feel guilty when I spend money on myself. I know I should be saving money but sometimes you have to live a little!
